An arts and crafts tree is a lot of fun. There are many different types of ornaments you can make with kids for the tree. The best ornaments are the paper, shrinky, felt, and pom pom.

The felt ornaments are excellent because the fabric is sturdy. You can choose from many different colors and the edges will not fray when you make ornaments. You can cut a pattern with the felt of a star, heart, Christmas trees, stockings, and more. Cut two exact shapes, stuff them with cotton balls, and sew the sides together or use fabric glue. Punch a hole at the top and hang it on the tree.

Laminated paper ornaments are fun for smaller children. You can print out Christmas designs, let the children color them, laminate them, punch a hole at the top and hang them on the tree. Shrinky ornaments are great to make too. These ornaments are made with shrinkable plastic. The kids can draw on the plastic with markers, crayons, and colored pencils and then you bake them in the oven. You can punch a hole in the ornament and hang them on the artificial Christmas trees in the classroom.

Wooden ornaments are also a favorite kids love. You can actually buy precut wooden ornaments at your nearest hobby shop. These are perfect because they are lightweight and inexpensive. These can be painted with any kind of paint you have in the classroom.

Another fun way to decorate artificial Christmas trees with children is by using food. You can make garland with popcorn and fishing line. This is cheap and easy to do. Kids love to make these. A candy tree is fun too. Everyone loves to hang candy canes on the trees every year. You can also hang things like miniature kisses and other chocolates wrapped in foil. This is fun for children. You should always expect for the candy to slowly dwindle every day. A gingerbread cookie tree is fun too. You can let the kids eat cookies as they make the ornaments. Punch a hold through the head of the cookie and let the kids decorate the gingerbread men with various colors of icing.
